Freeze when trying to update or perform full system scan....

Hello all,

i've just bought and installed Antivir Premium 9 on a windows XP system, but i noticed two issues:

- Automatic update is not working; the automatic update window displays but freeze immediately. (Manual Update are working fine)
- Scan system is not working. When i try a full scan system the scan system window is also freezing.

I've tried also to remove Antivir Premium 9 and install Antivir Premium 8, i have got exactly the same behaviour with version 8.

Could you help me to solve these two issues ?

Best Regards,

Adrien

Hi,
Please right click on My Computer, select Manage, Event Viewer and tell me if you see some Avira related errors in the application log and system log.
Tell me also if you see some hard disk or memory related errors.

Hello Alexandru,

Unfortunately there is no error in the application log and system log related to Avira. There is also no error related to hard disk or memory.
However I notice something interesting, when i shutdown my computer, i am able to see that update process seems to unfreeze just before my computer shuts.
Maybe one process is conflicting with avira update or avira scan ?

Best Regards,

Adrien BOMBLE

Hi,
Please do the following:

- open AntiVir's Configuration, tick Expert Mode, go to General- > Security -> and please uncheck both Product Protection options.
- download and install the WinDbg package: http://msdl.microsoft.com/download/symbols/debuggers/dbg_x86_6.8.4.0.msi
- start WinDbg
- reproduce the issue
- go to WinDbg -> File -> Attach to process -> select update.exe and press Ok button
- in the command window of WinDbg issue the following command:
.dump /ma /o c:\update.dmp
Please note the point sign at the beggining
- exit WinDbg
- compress c:\update.dmp using WinRAR and post here when you have this file
- go again to AntiVir's Configuration, tick Expert Mode, go to General- > Security -> and please check again both Product Protection options.

Hello Alexandru,

I have unchecked both Product Protection options but Windbg is still not able to debug the update.exe process. I have got the following message:
could not attach to process 3648, NTSTATUS 0xC0000022

I have double checked and both Product Protection options are correctly unchecked.
What can i do ?

Thanks for your help,

Best Regards

Adrien

Hi,
Please run these memory and hard disk tests:

- download the MemTest program from here:
http://memtest.org/download/2.11/memtest86+-2.11.iso.zip
- expand the MemTest archive in a new folder and burn the iso file to a CD
- restart your PC, enter in BIOS and select CD-ROM as the first bootable device
- MemTest will now check your memory
- alternatively you can use the floppy disk version of the program which can be downloaded from here: http://memtest.org/download/2.11/memtest86+-2.11.floppy.zip (in this case floppy must be set as the first bootable device).

- hard disk test
