"The profile could not be found!"

Hello,

I am conscious this has been discussed in post 840171. When my computer loads up, a small popup screen appears (see http://www.gregfisher.me.uk/avira%20prob.png). The 6th entry in that post (from Alexandru Frigioiu) suggested "Please go to Local Protection -> Scanner, if you have a scan profile created please delete it and create a new one. ".

I dont know what a scan profile is, so I dont know if I have a scan profile created, nor whether I should delete it, nor whether / how to create a new one... can you help?

This is a screenshot of my Avira screen - http://www.gregfisher.me.uk/avira%20prob%202.png.

Many thanks in advance,

Greg Fisher

Hi,
You don't have a scan profile created by you, you only have the default ones. Please go to Control Panel, click on Avira, select Modify, make sure that all the boxes are selected, then click Next until Finish.

Hi,

I opened Control panel & then "Avira Desktop" (the only Avira-looking option there) and I get this

Where do I select "Modify"?

Hi,
It was my mistake, I forget to mention that you need to double click on Add/Remove Programs (for XP) or Programs and Features (for Vista).

Hi,

no problem. Be advised that with XP, you have to choose add/remove programmes, click on Avira and then select "change". Then select Modify etc.

Unfortunately it didnt work. All of the boxes were selected in the "install components" screen, and when I selected "next", Avira ran through some processes but then the following popped up (i.e. the original problem pop-up box):

I restarted my computer in any case and the problem has not gone away.

Ball is in your court again...

Hi,
Please delete Spyware Doctor, restart the PC, does the problem persist?

Spyware Doctor is a programme which successfully keeps my computer free of spyware, malware, trojans, etc. I do not want to remove it! Is there any other way of fixing this?

Hi,
Avira also comes with an antispyware module. Please uninstall Spyware Doctor and if the problem remains you can install it again.

I just uninstalled Spyware Dr & restarted - the problem is still there. I have reinstalled Spyware Dr.

Hi,
Other then this annoying pop-up showing up, do you see or have any other problem with Avira?

not that I am aware of. My concern is that this pop-up means avira is not working properly in some way.

Hi Greg,
I tried to reproduce this error, but I can't.

I'm afraid that the only solution that you have left is to try this:
- look in C:\Program Files\Avira\AntiVir Desktop\ for a HBEDV.KEY file and save it in a safe location (e.g. desktop)
- completely uninstall AntiVir from Control Panel and restart the computer
- download AntiVir Registry Cleaner from http://dl.antivir.de/down/windows/registrycleaner_en.zip
- expand Registry Cleaner archive in a new folder, run it from there and remove all AntiVir remnants
- install AntiVir version 9 using the HBEDV.KEY or OTC
- restart the computer
- update AntiVir
