Avira Premium Security and Adobe Reader X incompatibility

Hi every one,

I for some time had problems with Adobe Reader X, and Avira Premium Security in my Microsoft Windows XP Pro SP3, it would constantly being blocked and stop working.

I now finally put my self working on finding out where the problem was being originated.

The short version: "Advanced process protection" must be disabled, for Adobe Reader X work as it should.

The longer version: if you have not change the defaults of your installation, you should be fine, but if you were like me and wanted the extra protection, and had activate that option, you will need to disable it in order to be able to use de Adobe Reader X correctly.

From de Avira icon on the tray, "Configure AntiVir" > check "Expert Mode" > go to the "General" option and expand it > "Security" > make sure "Advanced process protection" is not enabled... if it is, disable it and then reboot your system for the settings made effect.

I'm hopping some one from the technical support sees this thread, and tells the development team that the "Advanced process protection" is incompatible with Adobe Reader X, and update what ever needs to be changed to make it work fine, so that we the users can enable de option again and everything work correctly. If you do solve this problem please keep us updated so that we know that the problem as been fixed.

@ johnyjohn

What ever was the hotfix, I didn't get it, or it doesn't work, because I'm still able to reproduce the error, again and again, and I've also rebooting the machine.

I've made sure that I have the latest version because this was the latest version available for dowload at the web site, and I've made the manual normal update and the manual product update, both say that the product doesn't have anything new for it.

As long as the "Advanced process protection" is enable I still can't use the Adobe Reader X, it will keep blocking and stop responding and the only way is to close the application.

I'm using the Adobe Reader X 10.0.1 Brasilian, and the Avira Premium Security (English version).

@ north450

I've try Foxit Reader in the past (in 2010 I think), and probably I will never go back to it, because it simply doesn't show, to many, PDF files correctly, and to me is unacceptable.

Is their a prediction, to when will this problem (with Adobe Reader X) be fixed? Because it happens in my computer, and others.

It appears to be a problem that happens in the Microsoft Windows XP SP3 (Professional Edition, or Home Editon), but doesn't happen in Windows Vista (editions), and happens when "Advanced process protection" is enable in Avira.
