How to remove or disable Avira free anti-virus?

I've tried the following, but nothing works:

1. rename or delete the folder containing the Avira software (I installed it in its own folder)
2. Use Task Manager to stop Avira from running.
3. Use a utility I have (WinPatrol) to stop Avira from starting at boot-up.

Any suggestions appreciated!

Hi,

not sure, if i really unterstood the questions... :S

If you want to disable functions, just right-click on the umbrella in Systray and uncheck, for instance: real-time-protection;

If you want to remove the software -why don´t you proceed by System Control > Software (XP) > uninstall?

If, for any reasons, uninstall won´t work, there is a tutorial for manual removing:

OOPS. I meant to mention that when I tried Control Panel > Uninstall, Avira does not show up in the list of installed software!

Thanks for the link, I will try what it suggests.
