Webguard, Ask Toolbar and Chrome

Webguard, Ask Toolbar and Chrome
Avira Toolbar 7.15.4.24169
Convenient tools and links to make your browsing more enjoyable
ID: aaaangaohdajkgeopjhpbnlpkehbhmbj
Inspect views: background/background.html
There were warnings when trying to install this extension:
Permission 'chrome-internal://newtab/' is unknown or URL pattern is malformed.

I was running until now without the Ask toolbar on Chrome. I uninstalled the toolbar and rebooted then reinstalled the toolbar. It finally appeared in Chrome extensions with this warning. Tried to install several times but still same problem. Unlike in FF and IE, there is no green check bar for Web Protection and Update available, sign of something wrong. I also run the bitdefender trafficlight extension on Chrome. WOT & McAfee SiteAdvisor. Could you help?

Hi gdiloren,

What version of Avira are you using, 2012? I seem to have the Avira Search Free toolbar plus Web protection installed see screenshot. I get the Extension in Chrome OK (I did not receive the message you indicated in Chrome extension install), also in FF but not in IE9 X64 which I never use anyway!

Steve

Edit, you might also try to go to control panel, uninstall the toolbar & updater, go back to Avira & modify the installation to again include the Web protection, that worked for me just yesterday!

Hope that Helps,
Steve

Happy to see you got it right. Using latest Avira Free!! I tried again reinstalling as you said from Control panel even removing bad registry entries with CCleaner but I have still the same problem with Chrome. Rose warning of bad install, in fact the toolbar is installed but there is no sign the web protection is on as in firefox or IE 32 bits. On IE 64 bits, there is no toolbar but the protection shall be. I have another extension in chrome with similar warning:
SiteAdvisor 3.41.123.2
SiteAdvisor
ID: fheoggkfdfchfphceeifdbepaooicaho
Inspect views: Background.html
There were warnings when trying to install this extension:
Permission 'chrome://*' is unknown or URL pattern is malformed.

Thanks. In fact, just before synchronizing, the extensions are there and with no warnings. It's only after logging in into my Google account that the warnings are there but the general appearance and working of the extensions is unnaffected. I do like better the Ask toolbar on IE 32 bits, it's a bit less fancy on Firefox but in Google it's archaic: there are nogreen check marks!!! ?(

Ok! I would like to see the green check marks there are in the toolbars installed on IE 32 bits and Firefox 32 bits. Makes more sense. Otherwise, who needs a tool bar??? I mainly use Google and Yahoo as my search engines. :P

Yes, when you click them, they disapear but the toolbar stays the same. A detail, but I would like the toolbar improved in Google to see whether web protection is on or not as for IE or FF 32bits! 8)
