Space guzzler

Hi.
I am using Avira Internet on Windwos 7. Recently I discovered that this folder C:\ProgramData\Avira\AntiVir Desktop\TEMP was the culprit when it came to gobbling up space on my hard disk so I highlighted everything and manually salvaged almost 2Gig except for the current file that was being used,scaninfo(1028).tmp.

So can this cleanup be done automatically without one having to delete manually? Is there an update?
Rgds.

ps: the smiley is unintentional, part of the filename is being automatically converted (into the smiley).

I don't care and I never talked about beta versions.

I repeat: Never released a 14.0.3.338 stable version for paid products.

i haven't experienced a problem with having multiple "scaninfo.tmp" files in the avira-TEMP folder except that i will find an extra "scaninfo.tmp" file in the avira-TEMP folder if my computer crashes, where "avguard" was stopped, unexpectedly, and then a new "scaninfo.tmp" file is generated when "avguard" is restarted..

i still have avira version 14.0.2.x..

With build 14.0.3.350, seems that another bug (C:\ProgramData\Avira\AntiVir Desktop\TEMP => multiple "scaninfo.tmp" files in the Avira TEMP folder) fixed too.

i think that the problem, having the extra, unusing "scaninfo(XXXX).tmp" files, occurs either because the avira program's realtime-protection is crashing or because the realtime-protection is not being shut down properly, when the computer is shut down..

i am thinking that some other program that people are using is interfering with the avira proogram's realtime-protection's being shut down, when the computer is shut down, causing the problem with the extra, unused "scaninfo(XXXX).tmp" files being found in the avira program's TEMP folder..

on the other hand, maybe the avira program's "product protection" is causing a problem.. you could try disabling the avira program's "product protection", in the avira program's "configuration", in "security", under "general", ..

it also is possible that the avira program's "proactiv" module is causing the problem, where the avira program's realtime-protection is not properly shut down, resulting in having extra, unused "scaninfo(XXXX).tmp" files in the avira program's TEMP folder..

i always disable the avira program's "product protection", and i don't install the "proactiv" module, so that might be why i am not seeing the same problems that some others are seeing..

Hi redwolfe98,

You may see this as "trolling" but just to be clear:

Your recommendation in order to have AntiVir running is not to install "Proactiv" module (which is a behavior module), not to enable "product protection" and not to install "rootkitscanner" (this is from a previous post of yours)

see this:

http://www.avira.com/en/proactiv

"The threat of new viruses and malware is continually on the rise. In many cases, traditional detection methods are no longer sufficient in effectively protecting you against outside attacks. New detection technologies must be added in order to effectively ward off attacks, especially by new viruses and malware.

With Avira AntiVir ProActiv, Avira makes just such a new technology available to you. Based on your system’s behavior, Avira AntiVir ProActiv can detect whether it is currently being attacked by a virus or malware and can initiate effective countermeasures"

What kind of advice is that? Basically you are saying trim AntiVir installation till will work for you.

Removing all this you are basically running a MSE; :?: :?: :?:
