How to start Windows with AntiVir Actived and Guard Disabled

I use AntiVir only to prevent infection when I plug a USB Key or When I download a potential dangerous file.
So most of the time Guard is not activate.

Reason why I'd like to load the Tray Icon of AntiVir when windows starts without the realtime protection (Guard).

Do you know any options or way to do it ?

I'd tryed to Disable Avira AntiVir Guard" Windows Service but in this case I could not load Guard with the tray icon (I need to active the windows service)

Hi Mach,

i realy dont understand why u want to disable the realtime protection!
It is extremly dangerous to disable this option, because your system would be completly unsecured and an open door for evry virus and hacker!

Simply because I well manage my computer ;)

I was 2 years without any Antivirus software, only using some Online Free Scan. So it's not a problem for me.

I had install AntiVir because some friends are infected and provide me infected Usb key.

Thanks but I really want to do it.

If you disable the Guard module you will not be able to detect anything.
Thanks for choosing Avira

That true, when I disable Guard module, I could not activate from the Icon Tray.
I'm agree, that's not the solution

I'm looking for start AntiVir with Guard module like when you set it to not working "closed umbrella"

Hello Mach,

You can do this:

1. Disable AntiVir's self-protection.
2. Set the Guard service to manual in services.msc.
3. Create two batch files on your desktop for stopping and starting Guard, containing the following commands respectively:

net stop AntiVirService

net start AntiVirService

Guard can then be disabled persistently through a reboot and activated on demand. The umbrella will show as closed when the Guard service is stopped.

As was said previously, it's not recommended and "on your own head be it!" ;)

Hi SteveSstrat335,

This is a solution. with some adaptations:
- In AntiVir settings I need to uncheck the option "Protect against not desired stop"
- Put AntiVir Guard Service to Manual startup
- Create Batch file with net stop "Avira AntiVir Guard"
- Create Batch file with net start "Avira AntiVir Guard"
=> The only one disadvantage is to cannot use the tray icon option to do it

In conclusion:
- AntiVir doesn't offer a settings to start without realtime protection activated
- There is no easy method to start or control Guard Activation otherwise than by Tray Icon (I'd tryed parameters with avGuard.exe, Parameters (like /min /noSplash) with AntiVir lauching method)

I know it can be dangerous to do what I'm looking for, but I know risks and I want to use AntiVir like that.
May AntiVir developpers can hear my request to improve this excelent antivirus :P.

Thanks for your help,
If someone get another solution, i'm still interesting
