Cannot fully uninstall Avira

Hi,
I have had various computer problems and want to completely uninstall Avira Free Personal Edition.
Once I have sorted the issues, I hope to reinstall Avira.
The PC is running Windows XP Home Edition (SP2).
I have followed the procedure ( #135 - Instructions for manual uninstallation) outlined in the earlier thread. All files/folders deleted in safe mode and the registry scanner run successfully.

However Windows Security Center is still saying that Virus Protection is on and that "AntiVir Desktop reports that it is up to date and virus scanning is on".
I don't understand how this is possible as all files have been deleted except the full installation file (avira_antivit_personal_en) which is sitting on the desktop.

I have gone back to safe mode again to repeat the procedure and RegCleaner says 15 keys have reappeared - despite them all being deleted earlier. These are mainly in:-
HKLM\software\microsoft\preinstall\system\controlset001\services or in 'controlset002\services', or in 'currentcontrolset\services'.

When I run avuninst.exe it says "Unsetup was not able to delete all components" - even in safe mode.

Can you advise?

Thank you.
William

Hi,

I also meant to add that the PC gets an error at startup - that it cannot find file delus.exe which I believe is one of your files.

From the Internet:- The process delus belongs to the software delus by H+BEDV Datentechnik GmbH (www.free-av.com).

However, some Internet sites say this file is malware and should be deleted, but I will wait for advice.
CCleaner shows that it runs once at startup from a Temp folder which is rather suspicious.
So, please advise on delus.exe.

I have just ran a search for 'Avira' on the PC (after running your uninstall procedure) and have found:-
- Various RegistryCleaner files which is fair enough as I have been running that - however we have:-
- Avira cookies
- Avira in C\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs
- Avira_Antivir_personal_en.exe-0E3B57B0.pf in C:\Windows\Prefetch
Should those be there? Should I just delete?

Please advise

Regards
William

One question

Hi.
That was the procedure I did run as I outlined in my earlier post - I still had all those issues after running it.
It wasn't showing up in Add/Remove programs, but Security Center still said it was running.
Since then I manually deleted all the Avira files and cleaned up the registry.
Eventually it was gone.
I have since reinstalled it and it is working ok.

Finally, can you advise on the file delus.exe as I mentioned in my earlier post?

Thanks
W.
