Computer not protected - web protection error

I have a service reports alert that says my computer is not protected. Clicking on "fix" tells me there's a web protection error. How do I fix this? I tried uninstalling the program and downloading it again from the Avira website. I still get the same error message.

Hello,

I have the same problem as oldpapafred. I tried to do some of the support on webprotection suggested on the site such as closing and reopening the control center and disabling realtime protection to use the command prompt. Avira Web Protection was on automatic even though there was an error in the control center.

Below is my web activity.

Hi minusculedot,

It seems to me that you manually disabled Web Protection module, am I right?

I don't think I did.

If I did accidentally, I am not sure how to turn it back on. On the control panel, the web protection is now a red circle. It only directs me to the help page when I click on it to enable.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

"Modify" installation =
Click Start --> Control Panel --> Add or Remove Programs/Programs and Features --> Click on Avira --> Select Change, then Modify --> Make sure that all the boxes are selected, then click Next until Finish.

If problem persists, try a "clean" installation =

I did the whole Modify thing, but it didn't work. I haven't tried the "clean" install yet, so I guess I'll try that next.

I did the "clean" install, and it seems to have worked. Still, I'm not sure if I did it correctly, since I didn't understand the instructions to "expand Registry Cleaner archive in a new folder" and "install AntiVir version 10 using the HBEDV.KEY" (I installed the latest version rather than 10, of course) and was unable to carry them out like that.

...I also don't understand why you'd link to a post linking to the instructions instead of linking directly to the instructions, especially since the post you linked to didn't explain what it was linking to. That was a little confusing.

Thanks for the assist!

Still, I'm not sure if I did it correctly, since I didn't understand the instructions to "expand Registry Cleaner archive in a new folder"

It's the same procedure......
=

Quoted

- expand Registry Cleaner archive in a new folder, run it from there and remove all AntiVir remnants
http://forum.avira.com/wbb/index.php?pag…476#post1107476

Quoted

5. Clean Windows Registry:
Unpack the Avira Registry Cleaner in a folder of your choice. Run the RegistryCleaner program by clicking on RegCleaner.exe. After clicking on Scan for keys activate the option Select all and click on Delete.

and "install AntiVir version 10 using the HBEDV.KEY" (I installed the latest version rather than 10, of course) and was unable to carry them out like that.

The HBEDV.KEY or the the 25-digit activation code it's used in order to reinstall paid products only.......
=

Quoted

- install AntiVir version 10 using the HBEDV.KEY or OTC

Quoted

1. Preliminary steps:
Download the latest installation file from the Avira website and save the license hbedv.key in a separate directory or have the 25-digit activation code ready. The hbedv.key, if available, is located in the program folder of Avira:
C:\Programme\Avira\Antivir Desktop\
Note:
This is not necessary for Avira Free Antivirus
